You think…do I leave it alone or swing at it? There is always that one person who says, “Don’t swat at it, leave it alone!” There is always another person who yells as he/she runs away, “Kill it!” How does this relate to pain? It is human nature to self-treat, self-medicate, self-fix pain. We encourage this as our bodies are ever evolving and adapting. Compared to years ago, there are now tons of devices on the market now to help you at home —- think vibration guns, rollers, stretching devices, etc. But why are these treatments not working for you? It could be due to the yellowjacket effect. Let me explain. You leave the painful areas alone. However, It still flies around —- irritating & bothering you. You swat at it and just make it more angry, then it is worse! Then, what can be done? Believe it or not, there is an art and science to helping pain with manual therapy and exercise. Reason you are not getting better is that the area of pain is not the actual cause, but an effect of another issue. Another reason is that you are simply not treating it long enough. A 10 second rub here and there or a light stretch just doesn’t do the trick. This is why we have 1 on 1 appointments for 60 minutes with all clients and not just speed you through doors like a fast food window.
