Green Zones4 habits to prioritize as you age Posted on September 16, 2025 by Physiofit 4 habits to prioritize as you age As our two children grow out of toddler ages and the business has surpassed the 5 year mark, I am not in a constant funk. This has allowed me to monitor my daily habits even deeper to live healthier. Just like all of you, I could do better. I could do better to take care of myself as I age. Here are four strategies to pass on to you. Here are 4 habits to help you age: Mental fitness Doing crossword puzzles, reading books, playing games, practicing hobbies, and daydreaming all contribute to mental sharpness. I tend to read too much medical literature and research articles but have found expanding my reach beyond my field improves my cognitive agility. Staying social One study equated lack of social connection to smoking up to 15 cigarettes a day. Other studies show social connection reduces the risk of premature death. Quite frankly, I enjoy the company and laughs from being social. Good sleep hygiene Sleep becomes more difficult as we age, but it is a myth that we need less sleep as we age. A good routine can help you sleep, which should help you feel better the next day. Avoiding caffeine, decreasing technology and screen time one hour before bed and being more active through the day can help you. Exercise Exercise and being physically active is our speciality. Staying physically active can prevent injuries and help the body heal faster. Plus it’s also strongly linked to good mental health and brain function. Increasing your heart rate with moderate walking at 30 minutes a day for five days a week can be phenomenal for you. Strength training to help maintain muscle mass two times a week is also very beneficial. Hint: Do not wait until you’re 50 to start exercising.
