A study published in the British Journal of Sports Medicine found that inability to complete a 10-second one-leg stance was associated with higher mortality risk in middle-aged and older adults.

Importantly, this was an observational study.

It does not prove that poor balance causes earlier death.

Instead, it suggests that balance performance may provide useful information about overall physical health and aging.
