Girl’s hair and stopped up drains

In a house of 3 women, hair in drains is a constant clean up process.

The clean up usually starts with Danielle using a chemical product called, Drano.  I’m sure many of you know about this liquid drain cleaner with a very catchy name.  It seems easy: pour the viscous material down your drain and BAM, it takes away all of the clogs!

But, this really doesn’t work very well.  At least for hair in a drain.

Instead, I use a Zip-it tool. It is a plumbing gadget that actually gets in there and removes the gunk.  Quite gross, right?!

This got me thinking about how dizziness and BPPV is treated.

In the medical world, treatment usually starts with chemicals.  The prescription is normally meclizine, an anti-histamine.  This works to reduce your dizzy symptoms.  In some cases it works, but in others, it is like Drano.  Just a chemical waste.

Another treatment option for dizziness are bedside procedures called canalith repositioning manuevers.  These are specific techniques to clear “crystals” or otoliths out of your inner ear, which is the cause in a high percentage of cases.

These techniques are performed by physical therapists.  They work like the Zip-it tool.  A little more effort, you have to get your hands a bit dirty but they just work so much better and no chemicals to “dull” the effect.

In fact, these medical procedures are the gold-standard for BPPV. And most people get 90%+ relief in 3 sessions.

If you are dealing with dizziness and have not had a vestibular examination to determine if you have BPPV, then this would be highly recommended.  You can learn more on our BPPV Relief Program webpage.
